IN-FORM gelding Synonym will be given the chance to capitalise on his new-found maturity in next month's Ipswich Cup.

The five-year-old has finally come of age this preparation, growing into the horse trainer Gerald Ryan knew he could be with wins at his past two starts.

His victory over 1800m at Rosehill last Saturday convinced Ryan he was ready to take on stakes company in the Listed Ipswich Cup (2150m) on June 14.

"He has been immature up until now but has come back a lot stronger this preparation," Ryan said. "I kept telling (owner) David Moodie he needed more time. He wanted to sell him but I knew he would come good. He will have another run in Sydney and then go up to Queensland for the Ipswich Cup."

Synonym is by Orpen and a half-brother to Vocabulary, which ran a close second to champion Lonhro in the 2004 CF Orr Stakes and was runner-up in another Group One at her next start when second in the Futurity Stakes won by Reset.

Ryan will also be taking Tommifrancs north for the Group Two Brisbane Cup (2400m) on June 9 after his second to Twin Wing in the Lord Mayors Cup.

The winner of the Listed Bagot Handicap (2500m) in 2006 when trained in Victoria by Lee Freedman, Tommifrancs hit form for his new trainer when he won the Wagga Wagga Cup.
